The Dot At A Distance

The Dot At A Distance

Is the pale blue dot we inhabit
Isolated in our Milky swirl
For a reason?

Are we the equivalent of Area 51
A ‘no go’ zone in the universe
For hitchhikers cruising the galaxies
Forewarned to stay clear of aliens?

While we spend our lifetimes
Searching for the extra-terrestrial
The remotely intelligent
Are keeping safe distance
Following goings-on,
On the galactic grapevine.

Did Nature go out of fashion everywhere else
Against the onslaught of advancement
Or, did She just give up the ghost
Against droid, clone, cyborg and drone
Finding little use for the Elements
For animals, flowers, trees, birds and bees?

Are we the celestially camouflaged receptacle
For every refuse in the Universe?
In words more familiar - a garbage dump?
What conscience would damage
This beautiful blue planetary atoll?
The same kind of mind with no qualms at all
Of raping Bikini with radioactivity.

Could we be the Black Market
Trading in drugs, weapons, innovations,
Even music and entertainment;
Where goods and services not sold
Or, traded elsewhere in the Galaxy
Are to be found?

Or, are we the interstellar equivalent
Of the virology lab at Wuhan
Where a network of nasties
From numerous nebulae
Converge to conduct clandestine experiments?
Don’t we betray symptoms of bestial behaviour
Common to lab rats in captivity?
You must accept our acting wacko is antediluvian
Which does raise suspicion…and the question
Why would this Paradise amongst planets
Provoke so much pandemonium?

Endless number of questions excite my mind
About our existence on Earth;
Attempting to give credence to my theories
That this pale blue dot is where it’s at
For a purpose.

The questions remain…
What’s the purpose?
And…
Why is the Dot at a distance?
