THE COLOURS OF MY FLAG
From the flag of my
beloved country
Courage and Strength are dispatched
into exile
By a sinewed god shrouded
in the folds of Saffron.
Sown in her fecund fields
is a cancerous tumour
Consuming my country with
visceral hatred
For everyone and
everything green –
Unsparing too, of Prakriti and her
foliage
White bleaches all hues
of diversity
Of the invisible citizens
in between -
Condemned to driving their blue away
With a 'lifetime
free' ride
On the Ferris wheel
of fantasies and fake news.
Is this the flag our
forefathers fought for?
Is this the flag we wish to
bequeath our children?
